As crime rates continue to soar throughout the world, and the news is continually filled with stories of crime and punishment, many are wondering if their own areas are even safe to live in anymore. One such area recently brought into question is Doncaster, South Yorkshire. So how does Doncaster measure up as a place to live with regards to safety?
According to researchers, not well at all. Nigel Lewis from Prime Locations reveals that researchers claim Doncaster is the least safe place to own a home. Reasons for this include higher risks of natural dangers such as flooding, as well as a higher risk of criminal damage and burglary. Not only are your neighbours going to turn against you, but it seems mother nature also has her own agenda with regards to safety.
Doncaster Council have been seeking to decrease crime rates for a long while by setting up a variety of safety schemes. One of the main schemes is the Community Safety Team who work alongside the police, fire authority, NHS and voluntary sector to promote safer, stronger and sustainable communities. Their main goal is to improve the quality of life of residents as well as reduce crime rates. This scheme is working as part of the Safer Doncaster Partnership and has come as a direct response to increasing crime rates.
This scheme is being set out to increase security around the town and hopefully nip crime in the bud, stopping it before it even happens. Increased security will also mean offenders should be caught easier and reprimanded. However, as part of this scheme, the team will seek to hopefully work with offenders and potential offenders to change their behaviour and prevent repeat offences. They will also work with the victims of all crimes to ensure there is plenty of support offered to the residents.
The final components of this scheme include raising public awareness of both crime and the outcomes of any work done to tackle it, as well as supporting all victims affected. This scheme has already seen a dramatic decrease in crime rates and the council are hopeful it will have a positive influence over the summer months to make Doncaster a safe place to live once more.
